Canyoning

Happy Ground Hog’s Day! Hopefully Pete tells you that you will stop getting snowed in on the weekends. I don’t want to rub it in, but I’ll be touching down in the Galapagos while you are reading this. Ohhhh yeah!

Back to my travels. On my second day in Baños I decided to try my hand at canyoning. From the pictures, canyoning looked like rappelling down a waterfall. Back in college I did a little bit of rappelling in my Adventure Games class, so I thought it would be easy and fun. Well…..

it wasn’t so easy ( I kind of forgot how terrified I am of standing on ledges)…

but it was a lot of fun.

Nothing like a face full of waterfall in the morning. I was definitely a bit rusty on the rappelling. I didn’t remember having to use your feet so much, or the possibility of face planting into a wall of rock. We started off easy with a series of small waterfalls, so that we could get used to the rappelling skills. Progressively the falls got bigger, until we reached the waterfall, which was 45 meters high. Just standing at the precipice was terrifying, but the lowering yourself down part was awesome.

What a unique way to see a waterfall.

  2. That looks awesome. As long as someone else is doing it, and I only have to look at the pictures.
